Fears and PhobiasWe are not born with any fears. A phobia is an irrational response to a certain specific situation. We know logically this reaction is not helping us but we cannot help reacting in this automatic negative way. Those around us often don't understand the all consuming problems that fears and phobias create. These fears can even begin to take over our lives as we start to avoid more situations. Through Hypnotherapy we can find and resolve the deep rooted reason for the phobia. They enable us to find where the fear originated. Our current automatic responses are a result of this originating incident (and so it is like a computer programme which then keeps running and running). My press articles include: 'How Hypnosis Released me from the Jaws of Fear' - Gazette and Herald (30/03/2005) 'I was scared of flying but managed to put all the fear and negative feelings behind me' Andrew, York 'Thank you for your help in getting me though the dreaded driving test! I can hardly believe the difference it made' Sophie, York Fears and phobias can be paralysing, your heart races, your stomach churns, your chest feels tight, your breathing feels panicky and shallow, your palms get sweaty, and you may feel light headed. The irrationality of the fear itself can make us anxious, scared, worried, terrified and out of control. Fears and phobias can really intrude on your life (and sometimes they can even start to spread into other areas of your life as well). Whether it is something you may encounter every day, such as spiders - and when you are scared of something, you look out for it! Or whether it is something you may only encounter once a year, such as flying. Other common phobias which I help with include public speaking, a trip to the dentist, driving test nerves, childbirth, lifts, birds, wasps and needles. We can have a fear about our environment e.g. enclosed spaces (claustrophobia), the outdoors / open spaces (agorophobia). Think of how wonderful it will be to be completely free of that fear or phobia. To no longer have to think about it, it just not being an issue anymore. To, for example, walk into a room without scanning it for possible threats, to feel comfortable wherever you are. To no longer feeling in danger. To enjoy the whole process of booking your holiday and flying away, being perfectly comfortable, happy and looking forward to the journey. To just now being able to get on with your life. The reason behind everyone's fears and phobias are different therefore your hypnotherapy therapy programme will be tailor made for you. I also offer a FREE 20 minute in person or telephone initial consultation which places you under no obligation whatsoever. This is an opportunity to discuss the specific problem, and ask any questions. I work at Jorvik Medical Practice, which is a doctors surgery in the centre of York.
